Nersei Thaila was a Queen of Conriya, wife to King Nersei Eukernas II and mother to Nersei Tirummas and Nersei Proyas. While she is mentioned in most books of the series, she is only named in The Unholy Consult[1]. Her granddaughter was presumably named after her.
Story[]
The Darkness That Comes Before[]
Achamian remembers falling in love with Proyas' "legendary mother" over the years he spent as Proyas' tutor in Aöknyssus[2].
Later on, he also mentions how Thaila was furious over her son's delight at the answer Achamian had given him after being asked about the God ("I've heard many rumours, but I've never met the man.") and almost dismissed him[3].
The Warrior-Prophet[]
Achamian thinks about how Proyas still looks much the same as he did as a boy, including his curly black hair, which his mother had "both cursed and adored"[4].
The Thousandfold Thought[]
Achamian remembers accompanying Proyas and his mother to her dowager estates in Anplei[5].
At Shimeh, Proyas casts his Chorae against one of the Cishaurim, and thinks about how it had been a gift from his mother on his seventh birthday[6].
The White-Luck Warrior[]
Proyas recalls how, as a child, one of his duties had been to bear his mother's train at public ceremonies[7].
The Great Ordeal[]
Proyas remembers how his mother would sometimes weep over the dangerous things he used to do as a child, such as climbing trees to the peak[8].
The Unholy Consult[]
Proyas thinks about how he had inherited the face and eyes of his mother, "just as the poets said"[9].
