Nersei Eukernas II was a King of Conriya, husband to Queen Thaila and father to Nersei Tirummas and Nersei Proyas.

Story[]

What Came Before[]

Before his son Proyas was born, Eukernas was bested by Hoga Gothyelk in the Battle of Maän[1]. From then on, he called his limp "Gothyelk's gift"[1].

The last of House Nersei's ancestral rivals, the Nejati, were executed during his reign, which was the cause of an argument between Eukernas and Proyas[2]. Eukernas considered that the murder of these children was necessary to protect his sons and his people from a future war[2].

When Eukernas' older son and heir Tirummas died at sea in 4100, his younger son Proyas became Crown Prince[3].

The Darkness That Comes Before[]

When talking to Kellhus about Hoga Gothyelk, Proyas mentions the Battle of Maän and his father's injury[1].

The Warrior-Prophet[]

Proyas thinks to himself that Cnaiür is not that much younger than his father[4].

The Thousandfold Thought[]

Proyas writes a letter to his father retelling the encounter between Kellhus and a mysterious blind beggar in Gim[5].

Life in the New Empire[]

Eukernas died at some point after the conquest of Shimeh and the beginning of the Great Ordeal, with Proyas succeeding him as King of Conriya. On his deathbed, he called for his son, knowing (and maybe even hoping) he would not come[6].

The Unholy Consult[]

Faced with his own impending death, Proyas thinks of his father, and comes to the conclusion that he was right all along in his decision to have the Nejati killed, and in his belief that "power is damnation"[2]. He also recalls how Eukernas had called for him on his deathbed[6].

Trivia[]

This character is named for the first time in The Thousandfold Thought, where his name is given as "Eukernas II"[7]. However, in The Unholy Consult, he is referred to as "Onoyas"[6][8]. It's unknown which of the two is his actual canon name.
